This guide is here to be more comprehensive than the "Short Tutorial for Newcomers" blog post.
Lucky you! Out of the 22 participants in the killing game, you were the one who decided to plot how to bring about the demise of your classmates. You should feel ashamed... but those feelings are meaningless now. You have three days to complete the murder(s). You have a variety of weapons and tools at your disposal. Some of them are rather commonplace, whereas some are quite unique. Come along now. Let's spill the blood of those blundering Innocents.
- Methods of Killing
All weapons are LETHAL. Some, however, are more viable than others. I'd recommend avoiding the Knife/Scalpel; it's quite weak in terms of damage which can give your victim enough time to turn the tables on you. The Axe, Shovel, Baseball Bat, and Umbrella are common weapons and can be easily confused with other weapons by Investigatives. Avoid using the Sledgehammer for murders as well; since it'll only take two to three swings to down someone, people will very quickly call out anyone whom they remember having the Sledgehammer.
If you don't want to get your hands dirty, you can resort to choking sleeping persons or cheeky flashbangs amongst a group of people in the hopes that someone dies from ramming into a wall at high speeds. Choking someone will drop a substantial amount of fibers at your feet and at the victim's feet; you should bring a Clean Spray to clean it up discreetly. Kills from a flashbang blast are rare, but it does occur. Use the 30 seconds to choke one or two people before faking being knocked out.
Remember that you can clean your weapon by equipping it and pressing your Paint Key (Default key is "E".) whilst interacting with a fountain, sink, well, or shower.
- Items of Interest
When you're chosen as the Killer, a popup will prompt if you want a "box filled with goodies", or the Killer Box. It'll spawn in your closet upon the morning of Day 1 at 6 AM. If you decide to have it spawn in, make sure you grab it before anyone else decides to snoop around your dorm in the hopes of finding out who the killer is. Upon opening it up, there will be three random items from a select item pool. (Refer to the Killer Box wikipage for the exact item pool.) Make sure to either pick them all up or scatter them in random places; you don't want your victims to know that you've gotten the Killer Box, nor do you want them to have some of the items. It may prove to be fatal. You could also plant the Killer Box in an unsuspecting Innocent's closet to cause confusion and maybe some RDMs.
In the Janitor's Closet of the school there'll be various cleaning supplies, items, a Monkey Wrench, and a giant furnace. Since you're a Killer, you get to use the furnace to destroy any item in your inventory once. To do so, merely attempt to drop an item within the @
panel on the furnace and it should be removed from your inventory. After destroying an item the furnace will start to display smoke to signal that it's been used. You could use the furnace to destroy an incriminating piece of evidence, but be sure that you do it when no one is around.
- Abilities
While you may be a "Lackluster Larry" or "Middling Maya" in terms of your traits, you have four abilities that only you as the Killer have access to:
- You can sense nearby players' heartbeats. This is quite the helpful ability when attempting to figure out who's nearby. Upon pressing your Light Key, (Default key: R) you'll hear heartbeat sounds and a chat message clarifying how many people are within speaking distance. As someone comes closer to you, the heartbeat sounds will be louder and quicker.
- You can dash short distances quickly. This ability is useful for chasing down an escaping victim or dodging someone's counterattack. Use the Jet Key (Default key: Right Mouse Button) to dash. Note that after two kills, the ability will be disabled.
- You don't need to sleep, but you can fake that you're sleeping. To fake sleep, type in
/sleep
in the chat and you'll be able to fake the appearance that you're sleeping. This can be useful to mask the fact that you've deployed a flashbang, since Killers are unaffected by the Flashbang's effect. While using the 30 seconds to choke two people and spraying their fibers away, quickly/sleep
and pretend that you were also affected by the flashbang. - The ability to use Killer-specific items. While this may not be of help on the surface, it does allow you to distinguish between Flashbangs and Flashlights and explains how the Disguise Kit and Killer Box works.
